Early numbers place 47 Ronin in a head-to-head battle for the #1 film of the weekend in Russia for a second consecutive frame.
The action film grossed $3.7 million at 892 dates to break the $20 million mark and reach a $22.4 million cume after twelve days in release.
Weekend actuals from the Russian box office will be posted on Wednesday.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the biggest Warner Brothers film of all time in Russia.
The film enjoyed a 52% boost from its previous frame to gross $9.7 million over the weekend. The Desolation of Smaug has now grossed a total of $42 million in Russia.
47 Ronin hasn't been the global hit that Universal was expecting. The action flick starring Keanu Reeves has struggled in North America with $32.6 million. Overseas numbers aren't promising either, as 47 Ronin has thus far generated a total of $51.3 million across 34 territories.
Russia, however, welcomed the film with a strong $13.1 million opening across 886 dates in its first five days in release. The big debut coincided with Russia's national holidays, which run through January 8.
