The Russian comedy tells the story of a trio of attractive women trapped in a deserted island with a guy named Roman. The comedy led the box office in its debut weekend, collecting a $2.1 million bow from 726 screens. The Russian film overshadowed the premiere of Captain Phillips in the market. Captain Phillips finished its opening weekend in Russia in third place with a $1.7 million bow, falling behind Ostrov Vezeniya and previews for Disney’s Frozen. Frozen’s previews raked in $2 million from 538 screens.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire added another $1.5 million to its tally over its third weekend. The Hunger Games sequel has now grossed a successful $22.4 million from the market. The Russian franchise Dark World: Balance rounded out the top five films of the weekend with a $1.2 million bow from 1,123 screens.

RUSSIA: 'Catching Fire' Nears $20M, 'Oldboy' Flops on December 04, 2013

THGCFStill.jpgA $5.2 million hold put The Hunger Games: Catching Fire atop the Russian box office for the second consecutive weekend. The sequel is near the $20 million mark with a $19.4 million cume.

Oldboy failed to attract any significant interest in North America, leaving the overseas box office to pick up whatever it could to save Spike Lee’s remake. Oldboy flopped after premiering in 371 screens in Russia, taking a $407K bow and a $1,099 per-screen average –the lowest among all the films on the top ten chart.

'Gravity' Reaches $21.1M on December 02, 2013

gravityopeningweekend.jpgGravity moved up to a $21.1 million cume in its 9th frame in Russia. The sci-fi film has been able to carve a niche for itself in the market despite losing the battle for IMAX screens against Russia’s Stalingrad, the year’s top performer in the market and the highest-grossing domestic film of all time in Russia. Gravity has grossed a total of $615.3 million worldwide and is the sixth biggest film of 2013 at the global box office. The film has strongly benefitted from a $365.6 million performance overseas.

'Thor: The Dark World' Rises to #3 Film of 2013 on December 02, 2013

tdw.pngThor: The Dark World climbed up to a $35.6 million cume in Russia over the weekend, its fourth frame in the market. The Thor sequel has now more than doubled the $16.4 million lifetime gross of the original in the market. Thor: The Dark World passed Fast & Furious 6 ($33.9) and Despicable Me 2 ($35.1M) to become the third highest grossing release of 2013. It is unlikely that Thor will be able to challenge Iron Man 3 ($44.2M) or Stalingrad ($51.6M) for the top two spots of the year at the Russian box office.
