47 Ronin is still holding up in Russia. The action film has been plagued by poor box office numbers around the world, including a meager $37.5 million collection from North America.
Russia has been the film's saving grace overseas. 47 Ronin is currently reporting a $79.3 million cume outside of North America. Russia's $25 million total constitutes 31% of the film's overseas cume. 47 Ronin finished its latest weekend in Russia in 3rd place with a $1.4 million tally.
The second most important overseas market for 47 Ronin is the United Kingdom, where the film has grossed $5.2 million to date.
It looks as if Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones has dethroned 47 Ronin for the top spot in Russia.
Paramount's Sunday estimates are claiming the horror film took a $4 million opening weekend from 700 locations in the market, making The Marked Ones the best opener in the Paranormal Activity franchise and the biggest January horror film ever released in Russia. Universal is reporting a $3.7 million hold for 47 Ronin.
The Marked Ones will be celebrating the weekend result regardless of the final tally, already having outgrossed the entire lifetime gross of comparable film The Devil inside ($3.4m) in Russia.
Final numbers and the true #1 film of the weekend will be announced on Wednesday.
Early numbers place 47 Ronin in a head-to-head battle for the #1 film of the weekend in Russia for a second consecutive frame.
The action film grossed $3.7 million at 892 dates to break the $20 million mark and reach a $22.4 million cume after twelve days in release.
Weekend actuals from the Russian box office will be posted on Wednesday.
