'VIY' Breaks 'Stalingrad' Record for Biggest Domestic Opening Weekend of All Time on February 04, 2014
VIY broke Stalingrad's opening weekend record for a domestic film in Russia after the fantasy-adventure film took a $17.2 million bow from a Thursday premiere.
VIY played in 1,025 dates in its $17,228,745 opening weekend, ranking in first place with a dominat 70% market share. VIY represents the biggest opening of all time for a Universal release in Russia. It is the fourth biggest opening weekend of all time in Russia behind Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Iron Man 3, and Twilight 4.

'Jack Ryan' KO's 'Grudge Match' in Russia on January 21, 2014
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit faced off against Grudge Match in Russia in a head-to-head battle for the top spot in Russia. The secret agent film came out on top after registering a $2 million opening weekend from 1,050 screens in the market, outgrossing the Warner Bros. boxing comedy by about 40%.
The $2 million debut is 54% ahead of comparable title Safe House and only 24% below the opening weekend figures for Jack Reacher.
'47 Ronin' Hits $25 Million Mark in Russia on January 21, 2014
47 Ronin is still holding up in Russia. The action film has been plagued by poor box office numbers around the world, including a meager $37.5 million collection from North America.
Russia has been the film's saving grace overseas. 47 Ronin is currently reporting a $79.3 million cume outside of North America. Russia's $25 million total constitutes 31% of the film's overseas cume. 47 Ronin finished its latest weekend in Russia in 3rd place with a $1.4 million tally.
The second most important overseas market for 47 Ronin is the United Kingdom, where the film has grossed $5.2 million to date.
