November 08, 2012

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- An 18m Harkness SpectralTM 240 3D Silver Screen, a kilometre of black cinema draping and 1100 seats transformed an industrial space on the famous Cockatoo Island into a world class cinema.

The successful conversion of the Turbine stunned audiences at the inaugural Cockatoo Island Film Festival with various screenings including Tim Burton's Frankenweenie in 3D and the highly anticipated premiere of Australian film The Master.

"We were delighted to supply the screen for such an ambitious and well executed project. Festivals such as this which bring the very best of film-making to local audiences are the lifeblood of our industry," says Tony Dilley, European Sales Manager at Harkness Screens.
Harkness' SpectralTM 240 3D silver screens are considered by cinema exhibitors and special venue operators worldwide to be the optimum 3D projection surface for 3D systems using polarised light.

SpectralTM 240 is a high brightness silver screen that gives excellent performance with "passive" 3D applications using polarised light such as RealD. It also performs well under 2D conditions. The aluminium flake based coating applied to the unique base material provides high gain characteristics, strong signal-to-noise ratios, generous viewing angles and excellent colour temperature
