Wednesday Morning Update: Fast & Furious 6 rose a further 27% to 113,395 tweets, up from 88,945 tweets on Tuesday. Simply massive numbers again here as it is on course for 400,000 tweets on the week. It slots it behind the final two Twilight films and Eclipse as the most talked about films pre-release ever on Twitter. Clearly the marketing efforts paid off big time here via online media and it will be interesting to see how it translates to dollars. Brand recognition plus global appeal spells a massive ratio of course but even with that in mind I believe an opening day of $35 million could be on the cards and over $100 million for its first four days.

Wednesday Morning Update: Star Trek Into Darkness continued its meteoric rise on Twitter yesterday as it accounted for 18,470 tweets, a whopping 137% bump from Monday's 7,784 tweets. By comparison, Prometheus had 10,091 tweets its Tuesday before release, and Oblivion had 4,468. This continues to impress and with its current track for today it looks set to break 20,000 tweets for Wednesday as well. These are indeed massive numbers, especially for a male-skewing sci-fi film. Inception currently holds the record for most tweets in its release week for the sci-fi genre with 81,006 and Prometheus a distant second with 46,415.

Thursday Morning Update: Despite a drop of 10% The Great Gatsby continued its demolition of all competition on Wednesday as it finished with 30,553 tweets, down from Tuesday's 33,794 tweets. It is on course for an astonishing 120,000 tweets for the week which will give it top spot for 2013 openers so far and #16 all time. For whatever reason the film has connected well with Twitter users, especially younger women. As I said yesterday I could see this returning with a max ratio for its audience of ~7,500 which would allow it to hit $15 million on Friday and $41.5 million by Sunday.

Thursday Morning Update: Iron Man 3 rose 4% to 28,441 tweets on Wednesday, up a smidge from the 27,351 tweets on Tuesday. Don't let the small increases fool you, the tweet levels here are massive and its going to have a huge opening day. By comparison, The Avengers had a 5% drop to 49,147 tweets last May and Iron Man 2 had a 8% drop to 20,339 tweets three Summers ago. Its on course for 115,000 tweets by the end of Thursday and assuming a ratio in the ~2,000 range (Iron Man 2 was 1,858) it should be in line for $60 million on Friday (including its Thursday night shows) and $157 million for the full weekend. Say hello to blockbuster season!
