Wednesday Morning Update: Water For Elephants dropped 39% to 4,886 tweets and 8.91% market share on Tuesday, down from 7,986 tweets and 14.4% market share on Monday. It was falling back to earth today after its premiere on Monday supercharged its tweet-levels. By comparison, Remember Me had 2,214 tweets its Tuesday before release, Charlie St. Cloud had 2,182 and Eat Pray Love had 3,222. The big numbers keep rolling in here and at its current pace its going to hit a staggering ~25,000 tweets on the week. High teens to low $20 million seems to be in store.
Madea's Big Happy Family saw the best increase of the new films as it rose 50% to 1,144 tweets and 2.09% market share, up from 763 tweets and 1.38% market share on Monday. This was almost identical to Why Did I Get Married Too's 1,178 tweets that it managed to secure on its Tuesday before release. Its pace slowed considerably as the day went on (it was at 3.35% market share early in the day) but it is still performing quite well compared to Married Too. The latter managed to grab 3,600 tweets over its Wednesday and Thursday before release and I'd like to see something along those lines here before calling $30 million a lock. High $20 millions at least seems to be in store though.
Lastly, African Cats has surprisingly been doing exceptionally well on Twitter (well a surprise to me at least) and Tuesday was no exception as it snagged 1,194 tweets and 2.18% market share. This was up 35% from Monday's 885 tweets and 1.60% market share. Oceans saw a 33% increase to 395 tweets on its Tuesday before release which very similar to what Cats managed. Was always going to be a difficult film to call given the limited comparisons and the easy title to zero in on tweets for but I can't help but think that it is going to beat Oceans $6.67 million handily over its first three days of release. High single digits appears likely.
