Events of note boosting traffic

Once again it was a super slow week, perhaps the slowest on the year in terms of news boosting totals. Not a single film in the top 20 even copped a 300% growth which is a first since I switched to this format early in the year. The biggest excitement on the week was the Republican National Convention coverage where "Pitch Perfect" is evidentially a cliché of epic proportions for news outlets as it boosted the film to the biggest percentage gain in the top 20.

A few extra clips and TV spot for films opening in the next month gave them decent increases (Trouble With The Curve, Hotel Transylvania and House At The End Of The Street mainly) but other than that it is a hugely boring week. I should point out that Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters dropped their first trailer yesterday but it wasn't enough to get it in the top 20 upcoming films (it was 22nd). The 2,351 tweets it managed to grab was hardly eye-popping, especially considering the fanboy friendly genre, I now see why it was shelved for so long!

One last point is that the fact that only 2 films opening in the next month are in the top 10 in buzz is somewhat worrying for September's potential. Always room to improve but especially given the low overall levels and the increase of use of Twitter it would appear as though the box office is going to be in for some rough times in the immediate future unless the distributors kick it into high gear marketing-wise.
