Warner's 300: Rise of an Empire took in $2.99 million on Thursday to lead the daily box office for a seventh consecutive day. The high-profile 3D action sequel was down 3 percent from Wednesday. 300: Rise of an Empire was the week's top film with a healthy seven-day start of $59.21 million. That places the film 38.5 percent behind the $96.29 million seven-day start of 2007's 300 and 35 percent ahead of the $43.88 million seven-day take of 2012's Wrath of the Titans. 300: Rise of an Empire will likely find itself in a fairly close three-way race for first place this weekend with Disney's Need for Speed and Fox's Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
Speaking of Mr. Peabody & Sherman, the DreamWorks Animation 3D computer animated film rounded out its first week of release with $2.38 million to remain in second. Mr. Peabody & Sherman placed in second for the week with a seven-day start of $41.98 million. That places the film 32.5 percent behind the $62.18 million seven-day start of last year's The Croods and 18.5 percent ahead of the $35.44 million seven-day take of 2009's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Universal's Non-Stop held steady in third place with $1.32 million. The action thriller starring Liam Neeson was unchanged from Wednesday's performance and down a healthy 18 percent from last Thursday. Non-Stop placed in third for the week with $21.45 million. That represented a 42 percent decline from the film's opening week performance and brings the film's two-week total to $58.19 million.
