'Heaven Is For Real' Edges Out 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' for First Place Again on WednesdayApril 24, 2014 07:10 AM

Sony reports that Heaven Is for Real added another $1.87 million to its haul on Wednesday, representing a 23 percent drop from Tuesday and 49 percent from its opening Wednesday last week. The hit faith-based film has tallied $36.35 million domestically so far, 6 percent ahead of the 8-day total of Son of God.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier dropped 20 percent from Tuesday to $1.77 million yesterday, also giving it a 50 percent week-to-week decline. The sequel's 20-day domestic total is $207.1 million, 19 percent ahead of where Thor: The Dark World stood at the same point.

Rio 2 earned $1.51 million yesterday, off 22 percent from Tuesday and 50 percent from Wednesday of last week. With $81.2 million in the bank so far, the animated sequel's 13-day gross is 7 percent behind the pace of its 2011 predecessor.

Warner Bros. reports that Transcendence posted $0.76 million yesterday, off 26 percent from Tuesday. The sci-fi flick has taken in $13.68 million through 6 days, 26 percent less than 2011's Source Code in the same time frame.

Disneynature's Bears claimed $0.61 million on Wednesday for a 35 percent decline from is Earth Day boost on Tuesday. The flick's 6-day total is $6.97 million, or about 46 percent less than the 6-day start of 2012's Chimpanzee.

Last but not least, A Haunted House 2 slid 27 percent from Tuesday to bring in $0.45 million yesterday. Having taken in $10.58 million so far, the sequel is behind the pace of its 2013 predecessor by 49 percent.
