Fox reports that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes amassed $27.7 million on Friday, including late Thursday night's $4.1 million take. BoxOffice projects the sequel will tally an impressive $70 million this weekend, handily topping Rise of the Planet of the Apes' $54.8 million debut three summers ago. Early word of mouth appears very strong with a 93 percent Flixster user score, as well as a 90 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics. Since the start of summer, only fellow Fox release X-Men: Days of Future Past has posted a higher Flixster score on the day following release. Fox's The Fault In Our Stars also boasted a 93 percent vote.

Meanwhile, Transformers: Age of Extinction handed off the top spot to Apes as the former added $4.8 million for its third Friday. Extinction's domestic total now stands at $197.4 million and will cross the $200 million threshold early Saturday. Look for the sequel to tally around $16 million this weekend.

Warner Bros. reports that Tammy added $4.04 million yesterday, giving it a $48.5 million domestic total through 10 days of release. Its sophomore frame should land around $13.1 million.

22 Jump Street continued to hold its own as it claimed fourth place with $2.05 million on Friday. The comedy sequel's domestic take is up to $167.3 million after 29 days. BoxOffice projects a $6.3 million weekend.

Earth to Echo rounded out the top five with $1.76 million yesterday, giving it $20.86 million in its first 10 days and a projected sophomore frame of $5.7 million.

Fox/DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon 2 wasn't far behind, though, with $1.75 million and a new domestic cume of $147.95 million. BoxOffice projects $5.6 million this weekend.

Meanwhile, Deliver Us from Evil claimed $1.57 million, increasing its total to $21.87 million through 10 days. BoxOffice projects $4.5 million for the weekend.

On the limited release front, Begin Again took in a healthy $824,000 from 939 locations yesterday. BoxOffice projects $2.7 million for the weekend.
